This mezzotint reproduces Constable's brooding view of Old Sarum, the ancient earthworks of a deserted hilltop settlement and former cathedral site near Salisbury, its mound set beneath dramatic storm clouds. It was issued around 1831 in “English Landscape Scenery,” the series of twenty-two mezzotints Lucas produced under Constable's close supervision between 1830 and 1832.
