Audubon first spotted flocks of American Flamingos in the Florida Keys in 1832 and spent years afterward trying to obtain a specimen to paint, eventually acquiring birds from Cuba after his American contacts came up empty. Because a flamingo can stand nearly five feet tall, taller than his paper, Audubon solved the problem by posing the bird bending down to feed, a composition that also shows off its serpentine neck, webbed feet, and boomerang-shaped filtering bill. The result, engraved and hand-colored by Robert Havell Jr., became plate 431 of The Birds of America (1827-1838).

This is genuinely one of the nicest things we own now. The color in Audubon American Flamingo is what people mean when they talk about Audubon.
This went well past what I expected. The detail in Audubon American Flamingo holds up with my face inches away. It has been through a Gulf Coast August with the AC running nonstop and looks exactly the same. Genuinely delighted with it.
I have no real complaints and one small wish. The balance of light and dark in Audubon American Flamingo came out better than I expected. The colors are deep without looking oversaturated. Four stars, and the fifth comes if they add more sizes.
The deep blue matches what I saw on my monitor closely enough. The scan behind Audubon American Flamingo is clean, with no obvious artifacts. The detail in the small areas is much better than I expected. It was easy to find the right size on the product page, which saved me a return. Four stars, and the fifth comes if they add more sizes.
