Brandon — Antique Map Print

Brandon sits in Rutland County in western Vermont, a town whose economy through the 19th century depended on the rich deposits of iron ore and marble found in the surrounding hills, feeding local foundries and quarries. It is best known as the birthplace of Stephen A. Douglas, the Illinois senator who famously debated Abraham Lincoln in 1858 and ran against him for president in 1860, and the town still marks his modest birthplace with a small memorial.
