Painted in the mid-1720s, “The Stonemason's Yard” shows an unusually humble corner of Venice — a temporary stoneyard set up in the Campo San Vidal for a church facade under construction, with laundry strung between windows and neighbors going about ordinary chores. Canaletto (Giovanni Antonio Canal, 1697–1768) painted this early masterpiece before turning to the grander, more polished Venice scenes that made him famous, and it's now considered the picture where “Canaletto became Canaletto.” It has hung in the National Gallery in London since 1828.

I've had it in place for two weeks and I notice it every time I walk past. Everything I like about The Stonemason's Yard is here and legible. Our farmhouse has a lot of empty space and this filled some of it nicely.
I bought this to fill an awkward corner and it did much more than that. Anyone who loves Canaletto should have The Stonemason's Yard somewhere in the house. This is what buying online should feel like.
The detail is good until you get within a couple of feet. The texture that makes Canaletto interesting is only half there in The Stonemason’s Yard. The colors had already gone dull before the first cold front came through.

It has completely changed how the living room feels. The detail in The Stonemason's Yard holds up with my face inches away. My neighbor liked it enough that she ordered one for her own place. It looks like something you would find in a very good museum shop. This is what buying online should feel like.

The quality is better than most of what I have seen at this price. It brought The Stonemason's Yard into the house at a price I could actually justify.
