This plate from Andreas Cellarius's Harmonia Macrocosmica (Amsterdam, 1660) maps the stars of the southern celestial hemisphere, the half of the sky largely unknown to ancient astronomers and only charted in detail after European voyages into the southern oceans. Cellarius based his constellation figures on earlier models by the Dutch engraver Jan Pieterszoon Saenredam, then set them within his own richly decorated border of clouds, cherubs and classical figures. Hand-finished in watercolor over the engraved line work, plates like this one are a large part of why the atlas is still considered among the most beautiful celestial books ever printed.

This shop does everything right, from checkout to delivery. It brings out parts of Cellarius Celestial Chart I have never seen reproduced this well. It has not faded at all in a room that gets brutal afternoon light. It has made me a repeat customer already.
It went exactly where I planned and needed no adjusting at all. It captures Cellarius Celestial Chart well enough that I stopped looking for a better one. It has already paid for itself in compliments… 😍
Good value for something this size. Only the far edges of Cellarius Celestial Chart lose a little crispness. The price is a little steep and the quality mostly justifies it. It made it through hurricane season on the coast with no problems at all. It is staying right where it is…
This turned out better than the photos led me to expect. The balance of light and dark in Cellarius Celestial Chart came out better than I expected. The colors are deep without looking oversaturated. Good value even at full price.
This went well past what I expected. The whole order was smooth from checkout to unwrapping. The quality would hold up next to things costing three times as much. This one is staying with us a long time.
