This 1636 etching by Claude Lorrain depicts the ruins of ancient Rome's forum, popularly known by the seventeenth century as the “Campo Vaccino,” or cattle field, since its fallen columns and monuments had become overgrown grazing land. Rome's antique remains were a lifelong subject for Lorrain, the French-born painter and printmaker who spent virtually his entire working life in the city. The print reflects the same fascination with classical ruins, light, and atmosphere that runs through his celebrated painted landscapes. An impression is held in the Art Institute of Chicago's Charles Deering Collection.

Good value for something this size. It is the closest I will get to owning Lorrain, and The Roman Forum looks the part. My only wish is that they offered a larger size. It is staying right where it is.
This is a solid buy at a slightly high price. It captures The Roman Forum well enough that I stopped looking for a better one. It works in the reading nook without fighting anything else in there. I will be back for another one.
It has held up through a hot summer with the windows open. The energy in The Roman Forum is what drew me to Lorrain in the first place.
