This gum tempera, ink and gold painting, made around 1760 probably in Lucknow, Mughal India, shows an elegant court lady pouring wine, a refined genre scene typical of the sophisticated painting produced for regional Mughal courts in the 18th century. As the central Mughal empire declined, provincial courts like Lucknow developed their own flourishing painting traditions, favoring intimate, decorative scenes of courtly leisure rendered in delicate detail. The page is held in the public-domain collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
Jacquard-woven in soft, durable cotton — a warm, fully reversible throw for the sofa, bed or reading chair.
