Egypt and Nubia Volume (2) — Ancient Art Print

In 1838, the Scottish painter David Roberts spent eleven months sketching his way up the Nile into Nubia, recording temples and ruins that few European travelers had studied so closely before. Those sketches became Egypt and Nubia, an ambitious three-volume lithograph series published in London between 1846 and 1849, with Louis Haghe translating Roberts' watercolours onto stone and William Brockedon contributing the historical text. This plate belongs to the set's second volume, part of the sequence that carried Roberts' survey of pharaonic monuments to a British public seeing the temples of the Nile in accurate, large-scale detail for the first time.
