This print belongs to Hiroshige's Eight Views of Kanazawa at Night, a set made in 1857 that reimagines the classic 'eight views' formula—borrowed originally from Chinese landscape painting—entirely after dark. Rather than the daylight scenery of his earlier 'Eight Views of Kanazawa' series, Hiroshige rendered this coastal inlet near Edo in a hushed nocturnal palette, its familiar landmarks—pine-dotted points, fishing villages, an arched bridge—reduced to silhouette under moon or lantern light. The series was among the last landscape work of his career, part of a late meditation on snow, moon, and flowers.
