“Ruined Archway” is one of Francesco Guardi's capricci, imaginative architectural fantasies combining crumbling classical ruins with the soft, watery light of Venice. Guardi (1712–1793) developed a looser, more painterly style than his contemporary Canaletto, using quick dabs and flickers of paint rather than crisp architectural line, a technique that made his ruins and gateways feel atmospheric and almost melancholic rather than strictly documentary.

The subject is exactly what I wanted and the reproduction is only okay. The crop of Ruined Archway works, though I would have liked a little more space around it. The size works, though another two inches would have been better. It is doing its job quietly.

This is my fourth order from this shop and the standard has not slipped once. Everything that makes Ruined Archway special survived the reproduction. The colors are richer in person than they look on a screen. It has made me appreciate Ruined Archway more than I already did. It looks like something you would find in a very good museum shop. Worth every dollar and then some.
