The Astrologer and the Young Soldier — Tiepolo Tapestry Blanket

This etching, pairing an astrologer with a young soldier, belongs to the Capricci, ten prints Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696–1770) etched in the early 1740s that gathered occult and military figures into strange, dreamlike tableaux. Tiepolo, the era's most celebrated decorative painter, used the series to indulge his fascination with magic, fortune-telling and antiquity — recurring themes across the Capricci's shadowy, half-told scenes.
