Three Soldiers and a Boy — Tiepolo Tapestry Blanket

This etching, gathering three soldiers and a boy in an undefined, shadowy setting, is part of the Capricci, ten prints Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696–1770) made in the 1740s exploring a private world of military and theatrical figures. Tiepolo, celebrated across Europe for his soaring ceiling frescoes, brought the same confident, fluid draftsmanship to these small, enigmatic scenes, though he left their exact meaning deliberately open to interpretation.
