Large Speos View Taken — Antique Print

French photographer Félix Teynard made this view of the Great Temple of Ramesses II at Abu Simbel in 1851–52, showing the rock-cut speos rising from the Nubian sand slope above the Nile. Teynard's photographs are among the earliest calotype records of Egypt's monuments, predating the 1960s relocation of the Abu Simbel temples above the waters of the Aswan High Dam — meaning this exact view of the original site no longer exists.
