The lotus carries deep symbolic weight in Chinese art and Buddhist thought: because the flower rises clean and unstained from muddy pond water, it became a lasting emblem of purity and moral integrity, a meaning fixed in Chinese culture by the Song-dynasty scholar Zhou Dunyi's famous Ode to the Lotus. Water caltrops, the horned seed pods of an aquatic plant grown in the same ponds, are far less symbolic and far more practical: a real food crop harvested across China for centuries, boiled or roasted and eaten much like a chestnut. Paired together, lotus seed pods and water caltrops reflect a pond that was valued for its harvest just as much as for its beauty.

This is the best thing I have bought for the house all year. Every line in Lotus Seeds is crisp, even in the busiest areas.
My daughter picked this out and she has better taste than I do. It brought Lotus Seeds into the house at a price I could actually justify. It fits the space in the entryway exactly the way I measured it. Our winters are long here and this has made the room feel a lot less bleak. Good shop, good product, small quibble on cost. ⭐
This is my fourth order from this shop and the standard has not slipped once. The scale works perfectly for Lotus Seeds and nothing feels cramped. The whole order was smooth from checkout to unwrapping. This shop has a customer for life in me.
