This etching, Arming in a Vault, is the fourth sheet of Käthe Kollwitz's Peasants' War (Bauernkrieg) cycle, completed in 1906. The series reimagines the German Peasants' War of 1525, when impoverished farmers rose against noble landlords and were brutally crushed, and this plate shows peasants secretly gathering weapons in a cellar before the uprising. Kollwitz, working at the height of German printmaking's engagement with social justice, gave their desperate resolve a monumental, sculptural weight.

I'm really pleased with this. I keep noticing new corners of Peasants War Arming in a Vault weeks later. It has become one of my favorite things in the house.
Everything about this went better than I hoped. The tones are deep and even across the entire surface. ⭐
Everyone who walks in asks about it. The detail in Peasants War Arming in a Vault holds up with my face inches away. The tracking updated at every stage and it arrived when they said it would. Every person who has been in the house has asked where it came from.
My only complaint is that I wish they made a bigger version. There is more going on in Peasants War Arming in a Vault than I noticed on the website. The whole order took less than a week from checkout to opening it. The finish looks even across the entire surface. I would happily buy here again…
I was expecting good and got great. The packing was almost comical in how careful it was. I am already planning the next order.
