Scenic Spots of Jiangtian Temple — Antique Architectural Print

Jinshan Temple in Zhenjiang, on the Yangtze River in Jiangsu province, was first founded during the Eastern Jin dynasty around AD 323–325 and has been known by its popular name, meaning "Golden Hill Temple," since the Tang dynasty. In 1684 the Kangxi Emperor visited and inscribed it with the honorific name Jiangtian Chan Temple, meaning "a Buddhist temple between the river and the sky," the name that survives in this print's title. Ranked among the four great temples of China, it has been rebuilt repeatedly after fires and unrest over its long history, most recently in the 20th century.
