“Seven Wise Women of the Pleasure Quarters” is a color woodblock print made around the mid-1780s by Katsukawa Shunshō (1726–1793), a leading Japanese ukiyo-e artist celebrated for his portraits of courtesans and kabuki actors during the Edo period. Shunshō's elegant, refined figures helped define the golden age of Japanese woodblock printmaking, playfully reimagining the courtly theme of “wise” women within the fashionable world of the pleasure quarters. The print is held in the public-domain collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
Jacquard-woven in soft, durable cotton — a warm, fully reversible throw for the sofa, bed or reading chair.
