Known today as “Red Fuji,” “South Wind, Clear Sky” is one of Katsushika Hokusai's most celebrated prints from his early 1830s series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, made during Japan's Edo period. Hokusai (1760–1849) reduced the sacred mountain to pure color, structure and atmosphere, showing its slopes glowing red in the first light of a late-summer morning beneath a sweeping blue sky. The print is a highlight of the public-domain collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
