Painted between 1520 and 1523, “Bacchus and Ariadne” shows the wine god Bacchus leaping from his chariot, drawn by cheetahs, the instant he catches sight of Ariadne abandoned on the shore of Naxos. Titian (c. 1488–1576) painted the mythological scene for the private study of Alfonso d'Este, Duke of Ferrara, taking over the commission after Raphael's death, and filled it with the vivid color and pagan exuberance that made it one of the defining masterpieces of the Venetian Renaissance. It hangs today in the National Gallery in London.

I ordered it on a Friday and it was here Monday. I have been hunting for a good version of Bacchus and Ariadne for two years. The light in the Pacific Northwest is gray most of the year and this still holds its color. Worth every dollar and then some…
This looks like something that cost twice what it did. The hand of Titian is visible in Bacchus and Ariadne in a way I did not expect at this price. The price is a little steep and the quality mostly justifies it. I would happily buy here again. 😍

The quality is better than most of what I have seen at this price. It captures Bacchus and Ariadne well enough that I stopped looking for a better one. It gave the hallway the anchor it was missing. Four stars and a short wish list…
