This lithograph belongs to the American realist George Bellows' War Series of 1918, twelve prints and one large painting he made in response to widely publicized reports of German conduct toward Belgian civilians in the opening months of the First World War. Belgian Farmyard sets a scene of wartime violence against the ordinary backdrop of a farm, the kind of place Bellows insisted the war had reached far from any battlefield. Bellows never saw the war firsthand; he worked from newspaper accounts and the 1915 Bryce Report, driven by outrage rather than reportage.

This shop does everything right, from checkout to delivery. My daughter recognized War Belgian Farmyard from her art class and was thrilled.
It arrived safely, which counts for something after that wait. The darker areas of War Belgian Farmyard lose some of their depth. Three stars feels about right.
Thanks for taking the time. Feedback about softness in the detail is useful to us, and we are rescanning several pieces this quarter.
It fills the space in the stairwell the way I hoped it would. The colors in War Belgian Farmyard came through almost exactly as I hoped. There was a note in the box that made it feel like a person packed it. Shipping took four days from order to doorstep.
It arrived four days after I ordered and in perfect shape. I have wanted a good version of War Belgian Farmyard for a long time and this is very close.
I have already recommended this shop to three people. The tracking updated at every stage and it arrived when they said it would. My mother has strong opinions about how a house should look, and even she liked this one…
