Chinoiserie textiles such as this one flourished in eighteenth-century France and England, where designers translated a fantasy of Chinese life — teahouses, latticework, and figures at leisure — into large-scale repeating patterns for the European home. Fabrics of this scale were used to cover furniture or entire walls in fashionable rooms, forming immersive decorative schemes. Designers including Jean-Baptiste Pillement and Jean-Baptiste Huet were instrumental in shaping this widely imitated decorative language.

The picture is so soft that the whole thing looks out of focus from six feet away. The reproduction of chinoiserie furnishing fabric is bad enough that I would not tell anyone what it is. I am done trying to get anyone here to care.
