Painted in 1750 by Shen Kai, this hanging scroll depicts geese gathered along a riverbank, its inscription noting it was made 'imitating the Northern Song painterly idea.' The scroll later passed through the hands of a Japanese collector in Tianjin before entering the Art Institute of Chicago's collection with funds from the Avery Brundage Fund.
