Painted by Bian Wenjin, a court painter active under the Ming-dynasty Yongle Emperor in the early 1400s, this hanging scroll shows birds resting and playing among pine, bamboo, and flowering plum — three plants known together as the 'Three Friends of Winter' for their endurance through the cold season. The painting's naturalistic detail carries forward the bird-and-flower painting tradition established by the Song-dynasty Imperial Painting Academy. It is held in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
Jacquard-woven both sides in soft, durable yarn; insert included.
