A cat paired with a butterfly is a classic rebus in Chinese painting: spoken aloud, 'cat and butterfly' (mao die) sounds like the phrase for a person aged seventy to eighty, making the pairing a popular wish for long life. Painters including the Qing-dynasty monk-artist Xugu took up the theme, rendering it in the loose, lively brushwork typical of nineteenth-century Shanghai School painting.
Jacquard-woven both sides in soft, durable yarn; insert included.

I ordered one for myself and immediately started thinking about who else would want one. The tones across cat butterfly are even and deep. There was a note in the box that made it feel like a person packed it.
The subject is exactly what I wanted and the reproduction is only okay. The colors in cat butterfly are close to right and a little cool for my taste. The colors in the darker areas run together slightly. It landed somewhere between what I hoped for and what I feared. I would order again on sale.
I have had it a month and I am still not happy with it. My version of cat butterfly looks like it was scaled up from something small.
The detail is unbelievable for the price. Every line in cat butterfly is crisp, even in the busiest areas. The condition on arrival was flawless, right down to the corners. It cost less than dinner out and has given us far more. I have told half my family about this shop.
It looks like something out of a museum shop, in the best possible way. The clarity of cat butterfly makes it look like the original was photographed yesterday. It arrived a full day ahead of the estimate. The value here is so good that I keep expecting to find the catch. I could not be happier with it…
