This album leaf is attributed to Min Zhen, an eccentric, orphaned painter trained by Tang Yin who spent roughly a decade in Beijing before returning to painting in his own distinctive style. It comes from Min Zhen's 1788 'Album of Miscellaneous Subjects,' a set of twelve leaves he painted for his friend Dailili Shanren in exchange for a scholar's stone, demonstrating his versatility across still life, animals, and portraiture late in his career. This study of flowering plants reflects the loose, confident brushwork typical of his mature Qing-dynasty style. The album is held in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
