This “Spring Landscape” is by Aelbert Cuyp (1620–1691), the Dordrecht-born painter celebrated as one of the finest landscapists of the Dutch Golden Age. Cuyp specialized in the wide river views of his homeland, often bathing pastures, cattle and waterways in a warm, golden light borrowed from his study of Jan Both — an approach that later captivated English Romantic painters such as Turner and Constable. The painting is held in the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin.
