The Story in the Margin
“Young Bacchus and Companions” is a mythological scene by Sir Anthony van Dyck (1599–1641), the Flemish Baroque painter and star pupil of Peter Paul Rubens. Alongside his renowned portraits, van Dyck painted classical subjects with the same fluid brushwork and warmth, here depicting the young wine god Bacchus amid his revelling companions. The subject let van Dyck explore the exuberant, sensuous side of Baroque mythological painting.

I was expecting good and got great. The scale works perfectly for Young Bacchus and Companions and nothing feels cramped. The materials are noticeably better than the last two things I ordered online. It is the best thing in the upstairs hallway now.
I wanted something for the breakfast nook that nobody else would have, and this is it.
Everything about this went better than I hoped. It has made me appreciate Young Bacchus and Companions more than I already did.
