The Story in the Margin
“Vue de Dolo” is an etched view by Canaletto (Giovanni Antonio Canal, 1697–1768), the Venetian master best known for his precise, luminous paintings of Venice. Around 1740–43, when demand for his paintings slowed, Canaletto turned to etching and produced a series of views along the Brenta Canal toward Padua, including the locks and sluice gates at the town of Dolo. This impression is held in the Bemberg Fondation in Toulouse.
