The Story in the Margin
Berthe Morisot, a founding member of the Impressionist group and one of its most innovative painters, made this view of the forest of Compiègne, a royal hunting forest northeast of Paris long favored by French painters for its dense, atmospheric woodland. Morisot's rapid, feathery brushwork dissolves the trees and undergrowth into passages of light and color, characteristic of her lifelong experimentation with paint handling. She exhibited in all but one of the eight Impressionist exhibitions and was among the movement's most technically daring painters.
Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.
