The binzasara is a Japanese percussion instrument made of dozens of thin wooden slats strung together, played by rippling them into a wave-like clatter. It belongs to dengaku, a folk tradition of music and dance that began with rice-planting rituals in the countryside and was later refined into a theatrical art, feeding into the development of Noh.
