Blaeu World — Antique World Map Print

The Blaeu family workshop, founded by Willem Janszoon Blaeu in Amsterdam around 1599, grew into the most celebrated cartographic publishing house of the Dutch Golden Age, producing globes, sea charts, and the multi-volume Atlas Novus that defined luxury mapmaking for much of the 17th century. Willem trained under the great Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe before turning to commercial map publishing, a scientific pedigree that shows in the mathematical precision underlying his firm's elaborately decorated world maps. After Willem's death, his son Joan Blaeu expanded the business further, and Blaeu world maps from this era remain some of the most sought-after examples of Dutch Golden Age cartography.
