The Story in the Margin
Painted around 1722, this view of the Grand Canal looking from Palazzo Balbi toward the Rialto Bridge is an early masterpiece by Canaletto (Giovanni Antonio Canal, 1697–1768), made shortly after his return from Rome. The painting marks the moment Canaletto turned decisively toward vedute — precise, sunlit views of Venice — that would define his career and make him the era's most sought-after painter of the city. It hangs today in Ca' Rezzonico, Venice's museum of 18th-century art.
Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.
