Etched around 1650–1651 and known in French as Le troupeau en marche par un temps orageux, this print — held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, among others — shows herdsmen driving their cattle home beneath a turbulent, wind-swept sky. It's a departure from the calm, golden light Claude Lorrain is best known for, using the etching needle instead to build a darker, more dramatic atmosphere across the landscape. The print shows the range within Claude's pastoral repertoire, from sunlit idylls to weather-beaten drama.

Some good, some bad
I'm keeping it, though I thought about sending it back for a solid week. The linework in The Herd Returning in Stormy Weather is decent without ever being crisp. The insert that came with it is softer than I expected. It is doing its job quietly.

Fast, safe, gorgeous
I ordered it on a Friday and it was here Monday. My guests ask about The Herd Returning in Stormy Weather before anything else in the house. The image is so clean that I have looked at it with a magnifier. It has not faded at all in a room that gets brutal afternoon light. It is the best thing in the guest room now.
