Etched around 1650–1651 and known in French as Le troupeau en marche par un temps orageux, this print — held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, among others — shows herdsmen driving their cattle home beneath a turbulent, wind-swept sky. It's a departure from the calm, golden light Claude Lorrain is best known for, using the etching needle instead to build a darker, more dramatic atmosphere across the landscape. The print shows the range within Claude's pastoral repertoire, from sunlit idylls to weather-beaten drama.
Jacquard-woven both sides in soft, durable yarn; insert included.

My husband spotted this months ago and I finally gave in. The detail in The Herd Returning in Stormy Weather holds up with my face inches away. I have told half my family about this shop. ✨
My mother liked hers so much that I ordered one too. I bought this for The Herd Returning in Stormy Weather and got far more than I paid for. The reproduction quality makes the price look like a mistake in my favor. It made it through hurricane season on the coast with no problems at all.
I'm keeping it, though I thought about sending it back for a solid week. The linework in The Herd Returning in Stormy Weather is decent without ever being crisp. The insert that came with it is softer than I expected. It is doing its job quietly.
We hear you on the wait. Our packing team is small and we would rather be slow than careless, but three weeks is too long and we are fixing it.
The quality is better than most of what I have seen at this price. It has become one of my favorite things in the house.
I ordered it on a Friday and it was here Monday. My guests ask about The Herd Returning in Stormy Weather before anything else in the house. The image is so clean that I have looked at it with a magnifier. It has not faded at all in a room that gets brutal afternoon light. It is the best thing in the guest room now.
