After settling in Giverny in 1883, Claude Monet painted the nearby branches of the Seine repeatedly, often working in series to capture the same view under changing light, season, and weather. This misty view of the river reflects his growing fascination with atmosphere as a subject in itself, the solid forms of trees and water dissolving into soft, veiled color. These Seine studies anticipate the famous series paintings — haystacks, poplars, Rouen Cathedral — that Monet developed through the 1890s.
Jacquard-woven as a soft, double-sided tapestry throw with fringed edges — a warm layer for the sofa or bed.
