The Story in the Margin
Painted in 1868, "On the Bank of the Seine, Bennecourt" shows Monet's companion Camille Doncieux seated by the river near the village of Bennecourt, with the far bank and its reflection rendered in broad, simplified strokes years before Impressionism had a name. Painted during a period of financial hardship for Monet, the canvas is now recognized as a key early work anticipating the loose brushwork and everyday leisure subjects that would define Impressionist painting in the following decade. It remains one of the most significant works from Monet's formative years.
Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.
