Claude Monet traveled to Norway in the winter of 1895 to visit his stepson, and painted the fjord village of Sandvika near Christiania (now Oslo), fascinated by the snow-covered landscape and its similarities to Japanese prints he admired. "Sandvika, Norway" reflects this brief but productive Scandinavian excursion, applying his Impressionist technique to an unfamiliar northern light and landscape of wooden buildings and frozen water. The Norway paintings stand out as one of the few times Monet worked so far from his usual French and English haunts.
Jacquard-woven as a soft, double-sided tapestry throw with fringed edges — a warm layer for the sofa or bed.
