Sainte-Adresse, a seaside resort near Le Havre where Monet's family had connections, was a favorite subject in his early career, and this beach scene reflects the leisure and maritime activity of the fashionable Normandy coast in the 1860s. Painted with bright color and confident, simplified brushwork, it shows Monet already moving away from the darker tonal palette of his academic training toward the light-filled style that would define Impressionism. Sainte-Adresse remained personally significant to Monet, who spent childhood summers there.

Good gift, well received
This looks like something that cost twice what it did. The reproduction of The Beach at Sainte-Adresse is faithful enough that I would buy another. I ordered on a Sunday night and it shipped Monday morning. It washed clean on a cold cycle with no shrinking. Our stucco house is hard to decorate and this fit right in.

Pretty underwhelmed overall
The image looks fine from across the room and falls apart when you get closer. There is a softness across The Beach at Sainte-Adresse that I keep noticing.
