Claude Monet designed and planted the water garden at his home in Giverny beginning in the 1890s, complete with a Japanese-style footbridge, and it became the central subject of his art for the rest of his life. "Water Lily Pond" reflects this all-consuming late project, in which Monet dissolved the boundary between garden and canvas, painting the same pond hundreds of times in shifting light and season. The water lily paintings, culminating in the vast murals now installed at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris, are considered among the most influential works of modern art.
Printed edge to edge on a soft, durable woven area rug with a comfortable, non-slip feel.
