The Story in the Margin

This canvas belongs to Claude Monet's extensive London series, in which he painted Waterloo Bridge repeatedly between 1900 and 1904 to study how the city's famous fog and industrial smoke altered the play of light on the Thames. "Sunlight Effect" captures the bridge with sun breaking through the haze, warming the water and sky with color rather than the cooler grays of his overcast versions. Monet worked on numerous London canvases simultaneously, comparing them side by side to refine each atmospheric effect.

Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.
