The Three Musicians — Velázquez Pillow

Painted around 1618 when Diego Velázquez (1599–1660) was still a teenager in Seville, The Three Musicians is one of his early bodegones — everyday tavern scenes rendered with startling realism. Two singers and a lute player share food and song, watched by a grinning monkey, all lit with the earthy naturalism that would carry Velázquez to the Spanish court.
