Painted around 1618 during his early years in Seville, “The Three Musicians” shows three young men gathered around a table — one playing a viola da gamba, another a violin, a boy a vihuela — with a monkey lurking in the shadows behind them. Diego Velázquez (1599–1660), who would go on to become the great court painter of Habsburg Spain, was still working in the earthy “bodegón” style of tavern and kitchen scenes, using bold chiaroscuro to bring everyday figures to life with striking realism. The painting hangs today in the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin.

This is exactly what I was looking for, and I looked for a long time. Everything that makes The Three Musicians special survived the reproduction. Our apartment gets almost no light until noon and it still reads clearly. My only regret is not ordering sooner.
The shipping was fast and the packing was better than most furniture I have bought. The smallest marks in The Three Musicians are still visible, which is the entire point. It has come through a summer of open windows and humidity without a problem. Perfect from start to finish.
