The Story in the Margin
On Christmas Eve 1968, the Apollo 8 astronauts became the first humans to orbit the Moon — and astronaut William Anders, glancing up from the grey lunar surface, photographed the Earth rising into the black of space. Earthrise showed our planet as a small, fragile blue world, and is often credited with helping launch the modern environmental movement.
