The Story in the Margin
This etching by Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863), dated 1833, grew out of the artist's 1832 journey through Morocco and Algeria as part of a French diplomatic mission, an experience that permanently reshaped his art. The print depicts Arab figures in Oran, a port city on the Algerian coast, drawn with the immediacy of the sketches Delacroix made on the spot during his travels. Filled with the light, dress, and daily life he encountered in North Africa, the etching reflects Delacroix's firsthand observation, and it belongs to a body of work that introduced Romantic-era French audiences to scenes far outside the European tradition.
Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.

This is the second thing I have bought here and both have been good. The color choices Delacroix made in Arabs of Oran come through clearly. It fits the space in the kitchen exactly the way I measured it. Worth the money overall.
The quality is better than most of what I have seen at this price. The detail in Arabs of Oran holds up from a couple of feet away. Our place is a third-floor walk-up and the package came up the stairwell without a scratch.
I bought this to fill an awkward corner and it did much more than that. It brings out parts of Arabs of Oran I have never seen reproduced this well. This is what buying online should feel like. 🙂
The customer service here answered me on a Sunday. The colors in Arabs of Oran are richer than any version I found online.
It looks great in the study and my wife noticed it before I said anything. Everything I like about Arabs of Oran is here and legible. The reproduction is clean and even, with no obvious digital artifacts. Happy customer, and I don’t say that often. ⭐
