This 1829 lithograph by Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863) pairs with a companion print of a lion as one of his largest and most ambitious works on paper, the two big cats presented in a face-off recalling the animal combats staged in ancient Rome. Delacroix, who regularly studied lions and tigers firsthand at the Jardin des Plantes menagerie in Paris, brought a naturalist's eye to the tiger's musculature and watchful poise, years before his celebrated 1832 journey to North Africa deepened his fascination with untamed subjects. The print reflects the Romantic era's appetite for images of exotic, powerful wildlife, rendered here with the rich tonal range that lithography allowed.

Printed edge to edge on a soft, durable woven area rug with a comfortable, non-slip feel.
