Eugène Delacroix was fascinated by big cats throughout his career, sketching lions and tigers from life at the Jardin des Plantes menagerie in Paris alongside his friend, the sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye. These studies of lions capture the powerful anatomy and coiled energy of the animals in quick, confident strokes, part of a larger body of work that fed into his famous scenes of lion hunts and animal combat. The drawings reveal the Romantic era's fascination with the untamed and exotic, filtered through Delacroix's exceptional command of line and movement.
Jacquard-woven both sides in soft, durable yarn; insert included.

I wanted something for the home office that nobody else would have, and this is it.
It arrived in one piece, which is the nicest thing I can say about it. It does not look like the Delacroix I remember from the museum, and Studies of Lions deserves better. Better luck to whoever tries next.
Everyone who walks in asks about it. Owning Studies of Lions means more to me than generic art ever could, and Delacroix is part of that. This one is staying with us a long time. 👌
Thank you for coming back for another one. Repeat customers are the best compliment we get.
