This woodblock print comes from Momoyogusa (Flowers of a Hundred Worlds), a three-volume design book Kamisaka Sekka (1866–1942) created in 1909–10, drawing a vignette of a flower-laden boat from centuries of Japanese literary and poetic tradition. Sekka, considered the last great master of the Rinpa school founded by Tawaraya Sōtatsu and Ogata Kōrin, updated that decorative tradition for the modern Meiji era, and Momoyogusa is still regarded as one of the finest Japanese design books ever printed.
