The Story in the Margin
“Portico with a Lantern” is an imaginary architectural scene — a capriccio — painted by a follower of Canaletto (Giovanni Antonio Canal, 1697–1768), the Venetian master whose precise views of the city inspired a wide circle of pupils and imitators. Canaletto and his followers often turned from real, observed vedute to invented capricci, combining classical ruins, arches and columns into picturesque, atmospheric compositions that captured the same light and perspective as his Venice scenes.
Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.

The customer service here answered me on a Sunday. The scale works perfectly for Portico with a Lantern and nothing feels cramped. It has come through a summer of open windows and humidity without a problem. The tracking updated at every stage and it arrived when they said it would.
The customer service here answered me on a Sunday. I have been hunting for a good version of Portico with a Lantern for two years. 👌
It came packed so well that opening it took ten minutes. The texture in Portico with a Lantern makes Canaletto feel present in the room.
Four stars because it is excellent and I paid a little more than I wanted to. The hand of Canaletto is visible in Portico with a Lantern in a way I did not expect at this price. This old rowhouse has settled every which way, and it still looks right where I put it. It has been a pleasure to have around.
The reproduction quality is the best I have seen anywhere near this price. It transformed a study that had felt unfinished for years. It has been through a Gulf Coast August with the AC running nonstop and looks exactly the same.
