The Story in the Margin
“The Terrace” was painted by a follower of Canaletto (Giovanni Antonio Canal, 1697–1768), part of the wide circle of pupils and imitators who carried his precise, light-filled style of view-painting forward through 18th-century Venice. Canaletto's meticulous perspective and luminous atmosphere were so influential that works from his studio and circle are still prized for capturing the same sun-washed calm as his own celebrated vedute.
Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.

My only complaint is that I wish they made a bigger version. The color choices Canaletto made in The Terrace come through clearly. It has become the thing guests comment on first. It has made the entryway feel more finished.
The colors read warmer in person and I actually prefer that. The balance of light and dark in The Terrace came out better than I expected. I would tell anyone hesitating to go ahead.
My husband spotted this months ago and I finally gave in. It fits the sunroom like it was made for the space. My neighbor liked it enough that she ordered one for her own place. It has beaten every expectation I had.
This went well past what I expected. The brushwork in The Terrace shows exactly why Canaletto has the reputation. Everything in this house is secured for earthquakes and this has stayed put through two small ones. I would order this again tomorrow.
I would buy from this shop again without much thought. The tones across The Terrace are even and deep. The afternoon sun in this room is relentless, so I kept it on the shaded side and it has stayed true. This was money well spent. 😍
