George Inness's simply titled "Landscape" reflects the soft, atmospheric style of his mature career, in which specific topographical detail gave way to mood, light, and the emotional character of a scene. Rather than recording an exact, identifiable place, Inness used landscape as a vehicle for the spiritual and poetic concerns shaped by his Swedenborgian religious beliefs, which held that the visible world was a symbol of unseen divine truth. His loose, hazy brushwork and muted color mark a deliberate departure from the sharply detailed panoramas of the earlier Hudson River School.
Jacquard-woven both sides in soft, durable yarn; insert included.

This is the best thing I have bought for the house all year. Owning Landscape means more to me than generic art ever could, and Inness is part of that. It has come through a summer of open windows and humidity without a problem. Worth every dollar and then some.
I have already recommended this shop to three people. The color in Landscape is what people mean when they talk about Inness. It went straight into the home office and has not moved since. I am thrilled with the whole experience. ✨
The quality here is well beyond what I paid for it. The color in Landscape is what people mean when they talk about Inness.
This is the second thing I have bought here and both have been good. It survived a Brooklyn building where packages sit in the lobby all day…
This has gotten more compliments than anything else we own. Four stars, and the fifth comes if they add more sizes. ⭐
Thank you for coming back for another one. Repeat customers are the best compliment we get.
