The Story in the Margin
This etching, showing a lone rider standing beside his horse, belongs to the Capricci, ten fantastical prints Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696–1770) etched in the 1740s populated by soldiers, sorcerers and wanderers in mysterious, undefined landscapes. Tiepolo, the towering fresco painter of the Venetian Rococo, used the series to explore atmosphere and mood over narrative clarity, and its haunting, half-explained scenes have long fascinated print collectors and scholars alike.
Printed with archival giclée inks on smooth, acid-free 220 gsm gallery-grade fine-art paper; available in multiple sizes.

I was nervous about ordering art online and this went smoothly. People who know Tiepolo spot The Rider Standing from across the room. 😍
Good value for something this size. The hand of Tiepolo is visible in The Rider Standing in a way I did not expect at this price.
It arrived two days after I ordered, which I did not expect. The colors in The Rider Standing are richer than any version I found online. The condition on arrival was flawless, right down to the corners. The value here is so good that I keep expecting to find the catch.
I was expecting good and got great. My daughter recognized The Rider Standing from her art class and was thrilled.
This went well past what I expected. It has beaten every expectation I had.
